La Laguna is the island’s former capital — a colourful, atmospheric university town with cobblestone streets, colonial houses, churches and hidden patios.
It’s usually cooler than the coast (take a proper jacket!), but especially in winter it becomes beautifully lit, lively and full of charm.
Top things to see & doo
Stroll the colourful old streets - Take a long walk to see La Laguna’s landmarks – you can start at Plaza del Adelantado (town’s historical square, surrounded by beautiful façades), continue to the Cathedral de La Laguna (a delight for fans of religious architecture), Iglesia de la Concepcion (interior is pure piece of Canary craftsmanship) and you can even climb the Concepción Tower, the city’s iconic bell tower. It’s a best viewpoint over the entire old town and surrounding mountains. The magic of La Laguna lies in: pastel façades, hidden patios, lively university cafés, street musicians and a very walkable grid of wide streets. Just wander — the town is made for it.

- Interested in the history of Tenerife as a Spanish colony? The Casa de los Capitanes Generales offers a glimpse into the lifestyle and architecture of the island's early elite
- Museum of History & Anthropology (Casa Lercaro) - located inside this amazing old spot called Casa Lercaro— think cool wooden balconies and lush patios. Inside, it's packed with ancient artifacts
- Museum of Science and the Cosmos - Interactive science museum + planetarium. Great for families and curious minds. Note it’s outside historical centre, but an easy tram ride possible
- Cayetano Gómez Felipe Museum - 18th-century Canarian home turned museum; lovely patio café. A calm escape in the centre

- Terraces & cafés - La Laguna is full of small bars and coffee spots on pedestrian streets. Perfect for wandering, sitting outside and people-watching
